Day 14. The miles were 90.8 and the climb was 2480 to Shelby, Montana. The day started out rather cold and we dressed for it. All bundled up almost immediately started up the hill out of St. Mary's and climbed over 1500 feet. At least that warmed us up. The amazing thing is that the mountains ended as if a light switch had been turned off! From the climbs to the plains!! Here is a picture of a view on the climb back towards Glacier Park, and then a view ahead on the flat plains. It was just that fast a change!!
Here is a picture of Paul P. at the top of the last climb to our second highest summit >6,000 feet before we went down to the plains.
While we stopped for lunch in Browning, Mt., we stopped at the local Taco John's. It seems they have a way to increase business by having a "Happy Hour"! I had lunch there and was reminded why I never eat there! Paul P. loves it - go figure!?
On the way across route 2 we did come by the most northern point the Lewis and Clark expedition reached. I don't think they made it to Taco John's either. Both were named "Camp Disappointment".
Since highway 2 follows the Burlington Northern railway, we had a lot of opportunities to view trains. This time we were up on a bridge and watched them pass. Also there is a picture of Paul P. watching the show.
Tomorrow we hope to make Havre, Mt. May the wind be on our tails!!
The Amtrak train makes a half hour stop in Havre going to Glacier, where you can read the sign explaining that Havre is short for "Have Her", about a woman no doubt. Hope you can post that sign for me.
