With the floor pump I'm soon back in business. It really is amazing that I got this far without noticing a big problem.

Going to the Sun on a Bald Tire
Not a good idea.....This will teach me to inspect my tires every morning...Got a nice early start from Avalanche campground this morning for the climb up Going-to-the Sun Highway. We've been warned that we must be up to Logan Pass by 11am or else we get hauled in front of a judge. Shortly after the climbing begins I feel a little whumping in my rear wheel....never a good sign. A quick inspection shows that the wheel is true, no spokes are broken, and the tire sidewalls are fine. But upon further looking, it appears that the tire casing is poking through the tread....not in just one spot, but almost all the way round! This is not good - I have 3000' and 11 miles to go, then a steep descent with 18 more miles after the summit. FORTUNATELY, Gayle has parked the Excrement (Paul C's Honda) at the Loop parking lot, which is at the first switchback going up to Logan Pass. We open up the car and are quickly changing the rear tire.
