Day 35. A biblical rainstorm! Sagola, Michigan to Gladstone, Michigan.

Day 35.  We did 72.5 miles from Sagola Michigan to Gladstone Michigan in an absolute deluge!  We only gained 609 feet in elevation, but we almost floated our way here.  We did have to go hide under a deserted cabin;s overhang to keep from having to swim.  Except for a relatively short time in the morning we had constant rain, and heavy rain. Here are some pictures at the start and just after we got going in the light rain.

Then, the rain decided to really show us what it could do, and it started pouring hard.  When the lightning started, we cut off the road to a empty cabin and watched the rain gush off the roof!  Look to the right and you will see the water pouring off.
We made it to Perronville, Michigan for lunch and to get out of the strong rain.  There we met some Swiss folks who have been biking around the US for years!  They were cranking along with the rain and having a great time.  It was fun practicing German with them, and we traded addresses as well as stories - some true.

Next, as we went along we did come through the metropolis of Schaffer, Michigan!  I will have to ask Linda if she knows about the family town!!  The sign was about all there was though.  You can see the rain on the camera.

As we went east we did cross into the eastern time zone!  I even think my accent changed too!!
Along the way we did see some "interesting" things - happens every day it seems.  Here are a few more.

We did make it to Escanaba, Michigan and stopped before we fell into Lake Michigan.  There were lots of interesting shops, you know, the usual tattoo parlors, bars, massage parlors, but here are a few that stood out.

The last one, the "Heel Addiction" was closed.  Don't know how this might work on a bike, but it might be fun to try!
So, tomorrow the weather is supposed to be fairly sunny - well, at least very little rain - and we will for the first time tour the upper peninsula!
