We had an interesting experience at the Hinckley, MN Casino RV-Campground this evening as we were looking for a place to stay. Our choice was to find something in Hinckley or go 20 miles further to St. Croix State Park. Given that it was 5:00pm and darkness was only about an hour away, we were feeling kind of desperate. At the RV "campground" office, we asked if we could get a tent site for the night. Apparently that was the wrong thing to say. The lady at the desk insisted that the only way we could set up a tent was if we also had an RV. We tried to claim that the "Excrement" was an RV, and the host insisted that it had to be an RV. If we had said we wanted an RV site and then just paid, they never would have known that all we had was a couple of tents. But apparently we were the scumbag low-life's that needed to be excluded from their high-class Camp, even though they had hundreds of acres of vacant grass.
Apparently our puppy-dog looks were pretty good since a nice gentleman (Joe), who had just finished getting a site for his RV, took pity on us and said we could set our tents up on his site! So we got a place to stay.
In the end, it was just amazing that the desk clerk couldn't just bend the rules and allow a couple of cyclists to set tents up somewhere on their site, maybe behind a tree or something where our dirty little tents wouldn't be visible. Instead, due to the kindness of another customer, we plopped our tents down in plain view, used their showers and bathrooms, connected to their wifi and didn't pay one cent to the casino RV campground. Whoever put this rule into effect is ultimately hurting their own business. Here we are:
Well truth be told, you do look a bit shifty . . . 'eh?
